abstract = "Given the importance of the preservation of Araucaria forests and
the requirement to monitor the growth of forest masses for
commercial purposes (Pinus and Eucalyptus), the use of remote
sensing techniques is necessary because they allow to monitor
large areas in a continuous and repetitive way. Regard this, the
main objective of this article was to evaluate the dynamics of
silvicultural expansion in Curitibanos - SC, from 2002 to 2016,
using TM and OLI sensor images. The method used for the supervised
classification of images was the maximum likelihood (MAXVER), and
the collection of samples for classifier training were guided by
visual identification techniques of the features that characterize
the classes of interest, based on the interpretation key. This
analysis showed the expansion of silviculture activities in
Curitibanos - SC, where the plantations of Pinus and Eucalyptus,
grew 510.4% and 557.9% between 2002 and 2016, respectively. It was
also observed that 72.9% of the area classified as native
vegetation in 2002 remained in 2016, while the agriculture and
livestock class showed a reduction of 16.8%, this indicates the
expansion of silviculture activities. This research indicates the
importance of tools for monitoring land use and land cover change
in territorial management applied to municipal scale.",
